How many hours of sleep does my baby need?
One of the most common questions I receive from parents is “how many hours of sleep does my baby need?”
To help answer your question, I have attached a simple chart for your reference.
Age: 1-3 months
Total hours of sleep (nap and night) should be between 14-17 hours
Age: 4-11 months
Total hours of sleep (nap and night) should be between 12-15 hours
Age: 12-24 months +
Total hours of sleep (nap and night) should be between 11-14 hours
You want to ensure that you don’t allow your baby to sleep too much during the day as it may take away from their night sleep. However, if your baby is awake for too long throughout the day and does not get adequate hours of sleep, it can negatively affect their night sleep as well.
Keeping a consistent schedule with naps and bedtime, can significantly improve your babies’ sleep. Good, quality sleep will keep your child alert, happy and well rested.
If you are unsure of how many naps your baby requires or how long their naps should be, feel free to contact me and we can go through a free consultation.
